Moral Excellence

II Peter 1:5, Ruth 3:11, Galatians 6:10, Ephesians 2:10, Philippians 2:3-4, Colossians 3:12-13

II Peter 1:5-10 lists how one should “diligently add to their faith”. It is not that one is working “for” their salvation, for it is free, but that there is a “demonstration” of their new life in Christ to others. One of the areas of concern is virtue as the tender heart of love, in Christ, is reaching out to others. Virtue is taught in the Bible as moral excellence which is shown in self-sacrifice, purity, desire, and drive to live out being righteous in the daily Christian walk and encounters. The Apostle Paul teaches regularly about the virtuous behavior of believers as a necessary ingredient to the Christian life as he challenges believers to “do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life” (I Timothy 6:18-19). The great joy in sharing the love of Christ, which one receives as they believe in Him and receive Christ as Savior. The first thing that Peter mentions after faith is virtue or self-sacrificing to others.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the new life You have given to me and guide me in reaching out to others today in moral excellence and virtue to the world.

Project: List how and to whom I will demonstrate virtue to today and how.
