The Deadly Trap

Psalms 73:6, Proverbs 11:2, 16:18, 21:4, 28:25, Luke 14:7-11, Romans 12:3

A person is very careful around traps and takes great care in setting them. However, many a person neglects to examine their life for the trap of pride. Pride and a proud spirit are noticed, many times, by the people impacted by it. However, the prideful person seems not to see or hear how their speech and actions affect others. The prideful person often wants first place and for others to serve them as they brag and boast; putting themselves up for all to see. This attitude creates problems, arguments, conflicts, division, and disunity. This sin, pride, has often been called the “root sin” as it is connected to and brings to the surface other sins such as bitterness, arguments, revenge, unkind words, and much more. Jesus taught that it was “out of the abundance of the heart” a person lived and had their being. So, the sin of pride and a proud spirit must be dealt with according to the Word by:

  • Admitting what one knows is true in their life

  • Confessing and repenting of the sin

  • Committing to obey the Word

  • Meditating in and on the Word to clean out the “heart”

  • Doing whatever the Lord leads

Yes, the deadly trap of pride and a proud spirit has taken many down a disastrous trail of life and driven many others away from the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, reveal what is in my heart.

Projects: Write your own areas where God has shown pride in your life and how you will obediently deal with this area.
