Discernment

Proverbs 1:7, 3:5-6, James 1:5, I John 4:1, Romans 12:2, Philippians 1:9-10, Romans 12:9, I Kings 3:9, 4:29, Hebrews 4:12, Psalms 119:66

Often one observes another’s choices and decisions and comes to the conclusion that the person did not exercise good discernment. Discernment is the wisdom and understanding to make right and good choices. The results of bad or poor discernment usually bring more problems, strife, anger, bitterness, bondage, or regret. However, the wise, diligent, careful, and obedient follower of Christ regularly reads, meditates, and obeys the Bible and the leading of the Holy Spirit. One of the benefits of meditation in and on the word is that the work of God is being done in the heart and mind so that Biblical discernment is being established in life. This Biblical discernment guides a person to stay on the right path of life and honor the Lord, a life that God blesses. According to Proverbs 27:12, a wise person rests in and on the Word of God and the leading of the Lord. Therefore, they are making choices and decisions (discernment) that please the Lord and that He can bless and become the guide for their life.

Prayer: Lord, work in my life that I may choose and decide according to Your word.

Project: List the choices confronting you today and determine the Biblical discernment that must be followed in each situation.
