Listening to and Obeying God

Romans 12:1-2, James 1:22-25, II Corinthians 10:5, I Samuel 15:22

Often a parent asks a child, “Did you hear me?” Well, they heard with their ears but not with their heart. So this is often true as a believer reads the Bible or hears someone teaching the Word. However, real listening and obeying are when the heart, mind, and conduct are adjusted in obedience to the Word of God and by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Real listening is greatly affected and distracted by:

  • Feeding the flesh

  • Polluting the mind

  • Accepting and practicing worldly philosophies

  • Wrong priorities

These, and more, lead to unfaithfulness and disobedience to the Lord, moving away from the promptings of the Holy Spirit which leads to wrong choices and regret. It is vitally important that the follower of Christ examines their life in the light of the Word (Psalms 139:22-23) and is obedient and quick to obey the leading of God.

Prayer: Lord, show me areas where I need to listen and obey Your leading today.

Project: List any areas that God brings to your attention that need to be adjusted to obey the Lord.
