Coveting

Psalms 119:36, Proverbs 28:16, Ephesians 5:3, Luke 12:15, Colossians 3:5, James 1:17, Philippians 4:4-7

One of the traps of our enemy is covetousness or desire to have what another person has to the point of doing even the unimaginable to get it. Being obsessed with wanting or coveting has driven many people to say and do things that they never thought they would do. We are often warned in the Bible to avoid and stay away from coveting. This trap often begins in small areas and expands to engulf the entire life. Many lives and families have been destroyed because of covetousness or wanting something so bad it led them down the paths of compromise, dishonesty, and defilement. Daily one should:

  • Rejoice in what God has given to them

  • Be thankful to God and others

  • Do and speak to honor the Lord

  • Be alert to traps of covetousness

The Apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:10-19 to be happy and rejoice in all that we have and to be content.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to be content lest I become focused on things and become discontent.
