Stop and Hear

Psalms 143:8, Isaiah 30:21, Jeremiah 33:3, John 8:47, 10:16

Even in a crowd of people one generally recognizes the voice of one whom they have heard many times before such as a family member or close friend. The more one hears the voice the more likely they are to respond to their instructions. So it is with the followers of Christ. As they wait in the Word and prayer, the Lord speaks with special directions. The Psalmist reminds one that it is good to begin the day hearing the instructions of the Lord. It is as one gets directions early in the day, they know how to invest their life in the quickening hours that follow (Psalm 90:12). At the start of each day, it seems there is plenty of time but soon the day is over and time has slipped away. Therefore, we must pray and listen for God’s leading in the morning as He has directions for His own. It is true that a person is not to ignore their daily responsibilities but God does have special assignments for His own. So, listen carefully as you read the Bible and pray for His instructions for you today.

Prayer: Lord, open the ears of my soul to hear your assignments for me today.
