Humility Today

I Peter 5:6-7, Colossians 3:12, Ephesians 4:2, James 4:6, 10, II Chronicles 7:14, Luke 14:11

One of the areas of life that one must be careful about is being of a humble spirit and not proud. I remember a man saying often, “Toot thine own horn, lest it not be tooted”. In other words, this man was saying “to tell people how great you think you are for no one else will do it.” This is contrary to the Bible and ways of God for in James 4:6 we read, “God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble”. The humble spirit is demonstrated in love and concern for others and not putting oneself on a pedestal above others in thought and life. The humble person is faithful and obedient to the Lord allowing Him time to do as He desires. In Romans 12:3, the apostle Paul reminds us, “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” So, do not “toot your own horn” for the sin of pride is generally last seen by the proud person.

Prayer: Oh, God, forgive me for being proud and putting myself above others.

Project: List areas where pride has been demonstrated and how this should change.
