Great Challenge

James 3:3-12, Ephesians 4:29, Colossians 4:6, I Thessalonians 5:4, Psalms 19:14

Communication is of great importance and so is when, where, and how words are shared.  By a person’s tone, attitude, motive, and concern… much is communicated.  Many times in the Bible we are reminded that words have a great impact on those who speak and the people spoken to. In Proverbs, we are reminded that:

  • Talking too much creates problems. Proverbs 10:19

  • A person is not to gossip. Proverbs 10:13

  • Careful, thoughtful answers do not cause more problems. Proverbs 15:1

  • There is great wisdom in not speaking. Proverbs 17:28

  • What one speaks has great power. Proverbs 18:21

  • Guarding one’s words is wise and helps keep one from trouble. Proverbs 21:23

  • Good and encouraging words are great treasures. Proverbs 25:11

  • There is not much hope for a person who talks all the time without thinking. Proverbs 29:20

My commitment: To carefully and prayerfully choose my words today and speak words that honor the Lord and help others.
