Burdens
Psalms 31:24, 42:1-2, 68:19-20, 55:22, Philippians 4:6-7
Carrying a heavy box gets more difficult the further a person tries to carry it. Eventually, the box becomes a great “burden.” It is best to ask someone to help with the heavy box. So it is with the cares, problems, challenges, questions, and duties of life. Unfortunately, many believers try to carry the burdens themselves only to discover that the load is too heavy and causes great difficulties, strain, and frustration. We are reminded in the Bible to “bring our burdens to the Lord”, praying for His grace, wisdom, and strength to continue. Many years ago the songwriter Charles Albert Tindley wrote, “If the world from you withhold of its silver and gold, and you have to get along with meager fare, just remember in His Word how He feeds the little bird, take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.” Tindley went through many difficulties when young and was largely self-taught but he learned to take his ”burden to the Lord and leave it there.”
Prayer: Lord, I am loaded down with the burden of (fill in the blank) I bring this burden to You now and thank You for Your sustaining grace and for giving me the wisdom to deal with this matter today.
