What is in the Heart

Proverbs 14:23, Matthew 12:33-37, Proverbs 4:3-5, Matthew 6:21, Proverbs 3:5, Psalms 139:23-24

What is in the jar is often not known until the jar is opened. So it is with the heart, for when a person begins to talk they reveal what is in their heart. The heart of an inner person is where thoughts, ideas, philosophies, desires, intents, and more are harbored. This is the reason we are reminded many times in the Bible to check the heart and to keep the inner person clean. It is in keeping unchanged sins, attitudes, and desires that actions are generated. It is imperative that one checks the heart often and obeys the Holy Spirit in cleaning it out. As one checks the heart, inner person, they may discover:

  • Bitterness: inner corruption and anger over the words and actions of others.

  • Anger: over what is said or done

  • Unforgiveness: not releasing one from offense

  • Desire for revenge

  • Fear

  • Resentment and more needs to be obediently removed from the heart lest life becomes contaminated with other sins.

Prayer: Lord, reveal what is really in my heart.

Project: Make a list of attitudes that God desires to be removed from your heart.
