Requirements
Micah 6:8, Luke 14:11, II Chronicles 7:14, James 4:10, Colossians 3:17, I Peter 5:6-7
We have various requirements placed on us today from the way we eat to the manner in which we drive, speak, and dress (to consider a few of the areas). The Lord, however, places the requirement of humility on the obedient and effective believer. Humility is defined in the Bible as “the fear of the Lord” (Proverbs 22:4) and “to be humble is to be face down in the dirt, submitting to the authority of another, without personal pride.”
Humility then is shown by one’s attitude, conduct, and speech each day. That of not lifting up self so others would see and honor them, but faithfully and carefully living in obedience to the Bible and doing all the Holy Spirit leads one to do and not to do. According to Micah 6:8, this is a “requirement” of God and not just a good idea to consider. The conclusion would be that the believer who lifts up self for others to see and praise is in a seriously wrong position which God sees and knows (James 4:6-7).
Prayer: God move in my heart and show me where pride exists now and guide me to cultivate humility today.
Project: List ways that pride may be seen in your life and how each aspect should be dealt with now.
