Do Not Try To Get Even

Psalms 37:1-7, Romans 12:19, I Peter 3:9, I Thessalonians 5:15, II Corinthians 13:11, Hebrews 10:30

Children, many times, try to even up the score as they get in the last word or punch when the disagreement is supposed to be over. So it is with grown-ups, many times after the argument and they think about it, try to even up the score by:

  • Getting in the last words

  • Doing unkind things

  • Making it difficult for others

  • Making themselves look good

  • Emphasizing the faults and failures of others.

However, we are instructed in the Bible that God keeps the score and will bring everyone into judgment (Romans 14:10-12). Humanly one does not want to “wait” for the timing of God which is always the best and creates many more problems by plunging ahead of God. However, in His leading and discretion, one should wait on Him (Isaiah 40:31) and do His will. So, be careful, let God keep the record and do His will in His time. As the songwriter penned years ago, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way”.

Prayer: God, do in my heart, mind, and life what only You can do as I seek to do Your will.

Project: List the areas of confrontation and give them to God and commit to His will and timing.
